Default Earliest Diesel

I notice that the earliest production cars appear to be petrol engined. Did the diesel engine only become available later. My diesel connie 163196 was built in February 2000, how early is that for a diesel. Any info would be most welcome.

It's not so early. There are 1999 diesel versions out there. They have probably been around from the start as the Dutch 1999 Rover 75 brochure has the diesel engine advertised.

From memory, the diesels did lag slightly behind the petrols at launch. Most dealerships received a high spec 2.5V6 in Wedgewood and a mid spec 1.8 in Atlantic blue for their showroom launch events. I've got a feeling we didn't get diesels (or was it just the diesel autos ?) for a month or two after

Mrs MB's leather interior came from a 1999 T plated Connoisseur SE diesel.

It still remains a nice place to be in her soon to be extinct 2004 Classicasseur SE
