Default Latest craze ?

The latesr craze around my parts is taking off your number plates and putting them in your front and rear windows. Why the bldy hell would you do that and why arnt the police stopping them ? In the past iv been stopped for a spot check where nothing was amiss not even a light out . Perhaps im to old now and cant see the cool factor .

Been going on around my way for ages. I know I was young once and pushed the legal boundaries of driving somewhat, but this is just dumb ass! I'm even starting to see it in rather nice cars driven by proper adults. I guess money can't buy you brains or taste.

I followed a 2012 plate VW Polo this morning, the thing was that low it had absolutely no suspension travel, on the slightest undulation it was bouncing so hard it was skipping across the road, especially on bends. Looked almost impossible to keep in a straight line.

Can’t see the appeal myself!

What they all need is a jacked up Mk1 escort running a rover V8 and jag irs with a fog light pointing at the diff.

Two 6’ fibreglass whip aerials, and some murals.

Ahh those were the days..

I wouldn't want something in the front window rattling around would drive me mad. Also it surely would obscure the drivers vision as well as the sat-navs and mobile phones clamped to windscreens.

I always thought that you weren't supposed to have things in your line of sight. How many people do you see, especially at night, with sat-navs lit up causing a distraction right in front of the steering wheel?

It's a pity a few of these aren't banned for driving without due care and attention. If there are any police spare to check this stuff, they couldn't afford to remove too many drivers form the roads, it's one of the countries main source of incomes!

Its possible they are doing it because there has been a spate of number plate thefts to clone a similar vehicle. Someone suggests doing this to stop them getting nicked and word spreads so they all copy like sheep.

Answer is of course fit tamper proof fixings. Around West Yorks. the police set up a free fitting service of these fixings but I think its now ended.

On a slightly different theme but related, I have noticed locally a few mainly VW Golfs and Polos that are late models on early plates i.e. 2017 Golf on a nothing special 53 plate. Again its to make them disappear on NPR and compliance cameras, of which there are hundreds round Bradford. Told most cars are hired and used by criminals, or those not entitled to drive, and the plates come off a cloned car or are stolen. They are not bothered that the plates only loosely relate to the model as its not being sold on and will go back on its original plates when it goes back to the hirer.

Think the basic idea is to make the bumper look a bit cooler, especially when they fill the number plate recess.😀

I didnt think it was so widespread , another thing that iv seen are cars ( normaly small hatch backs) that have their wheels leaning in at the top most point . Again why ? Is it because it further limits body roll in corners ? But they are drivig around partly on the tyre wall !
