Default Have I missed something for years?

I was in an early 2002 last week and it swung me. Instead of having just the standard none atc in it like below.

.

It had one like this below. At first I though he's just popped in a 2nd switch to make it look full but on investigation with the owners permissions it had a full switch mechanism in behind it and a blue wire to the control setup. And it illuminated.

Now the engine was gone as was a none runner but have I missed this in all these years or was this car a factory freak?

Edit.

Just like this. Was this a change between Mk1 and mk2 for none atc cars? Very curious.

seems to be a standard item from 2003 on Club models. Although with the design of the manual controls I would have imagine it would have been some form of option prior to this.

LINK

The dual zone manual control has been discussed a few times on the forum.

I can honestly say I've no idea how I've missed it before! Wonder could it be retro fitted.

I dont know how easy it would be for a single sided one. However I recall reading about it being done, and it isnt a swap out and connect a few bits. Full dash out, and all the heating components out and swapped over. I got the impression they are not interchangeable.

I quite fancied this on my Classic

I spoke to Trikey about it, and he said it could be done but it would be a very complex upgrade.
