Default Clutch Bleeding in the North West...

I have tried to book my ZT into my local garage to get the clutch bled, as its started to creak (and its very annoying). The actual operation of the clutch (and its biting point) has not changed, other than the noise, and reading other peoples reports of having the clutch bled pointed me in that direction.

But, the garage said it can't be done as "they never need bleeding" and aren't willing to look at it - if they did they would probably say it needs a new master/slave cylinder etc...

So............... I was wondering if there's anyone in the North West (I'm in Leyland, nr Preston) who would be willing do this for me... I can sort you out for it, no problem. I had a look at the weekend and I just can't get at the cylinder near my clutch pedal - or else I'd do it myself.

you could always try the garage on clifton marsh ( off the blackpool road heading towards freckleton/warton), they are called Signature ( dont know the phone number offhand- its in me desk at work, but Im off all week, sorry), they are very good ( ex phoenix preston technicians).

I tried them, and they gave me the "its a pre-bled system, it doesn't need bleeding" speel too.

Cheers for the headup though.

oh !-
how about dropping the likes of lates a PM asking how to do it, and taking that along.

I thought changing the clutch same as the brake fluid was a service item.
Certainly not designed to never be done

Changing the fluid may not solve a creak though
Is it the pedal if so Pondweed has written a fair bit on the bushes
If it is the clutch itself than it may be the release splines which you can't really get at.

The noise is definately coming from the pedal area, not from the clutch itself. I'll check out Pondweeds threads now. Cheers.

bushes worth doing for cheap feel good/"another MGR receipt in the service history file" even if it doesnt actually work!

someone else has written about the creak - bushes only solve graunchiness -creak, they thought, was caused by the metal inserts for the plastic pedal box being slightly too long for their housing - he ground the ends to ensure a good tight fit against the bulkhead. He also, if I remember, said it was a pig to do and took several lightyears to complete (or something like that) so even though I have the creak too, I have just turned up the stereo.

Its an old car anyway, so surely it should be allowed to...

p.s. its not difficult to bleed when youve worked out what tools you need. The top comes off easily with a long screwdriver being 'driven' against it with a hammer to loosen the screw-threaded top. You also need a plastic syringe (cheap from vet or boots) with some aquarium airline on the end of it for filling. Again, its a feelgood removing the condom thing inside and cuttingit right back to the top section, and filling the reservoir with about ten times the volume that it had before removing it! (i.e. if it leaks in future, ten times longer to notice the dribbles before it dies on you)
Its also very satisfying bleeding and seeing real rubbish come out - old bicycle frames, paint pots, trolleys etc. An old fashioned neoprene hose with a slit in it and the end blocked with a bolt works fine (in a jamjar of fluid) and is about £2 on ebay
