Default Exhaust smell on 75 V6 Conn Saloon

Hi,
Only just registered on and wonderd if anyone out there can tell me the reason why I can detect a faint smell of exhaust while stationary on tick over when I open the drivers side window. The smell is more apparent when I lift the bonnet whilst on tick over. Could this mean a gasket going ?.

Cheers

With the bonnet open you should not be able to smell exhaust fumes. I would guess if you remove the "KV6 Quad cam" acoustic cover you may notice some broken breather pipes to the left hand side of the engine. The T piece is well known for becoming brittle and splitting.

Default Exhaust smell

Thanks for the very quick reply and valuable advice.
I will mention this to the Rover dealer when I pop in there next week.
I am a disabled driver and find it difficult to do anything more than just the basic oil, water checks etc so the garage can take a look at the breather pipe

Cheers
