No, the recommended oil is a 10W40 or even the Mobil1 oil 0W40.
The problem is that at operating temperature, the 5W50 is thicker, resulting in a slight loss of performance, increased fuel economy and even higher oil temperature. That said, I have just realised you live in Spain, but I think the comments still stand. Can you get 0W40 in Spain, or even 5W40? In fact a 10W40 would be ok. Are you particularly wanting to use Mobil1? Last edited by MartinW; 28th May 2007 at 13:05.. |

mobile 1 5W-50
Thank you for your reply.
I did an oil and filter change yesterday mornig without checking which Mobile 1 oil I had taken off the supermarket shelf (I hate supermarket shopping with the wife) did not realise until to late. Would this oil cause any detrimental effect to the engine or can I leave it in until the next oil change (7500) ?? Many thanks, Bob. |

Assuming the weather is quite hot (>30°C) for the most part and you don't rev the engine hard, then it should be ok, but if you can get a 0W30 Mobil1 then add 0.5L if it needs a top up as this will bring the top-end viscosity down a bit in line with the --W40 requirement.
Also, on starting up be gentle with it, give it time for the engine to warm up properly (as you should anyway) over say 10-15km as this will also help. |
