rusty spare wheel well?
I am currently looking at a ztt which is for sale. the car looks good but has had some sort of weird patch up job in the wheel well. should I be concerned? could see no holes under the car but looks odd. i previously owned one of these with no issues in that area.

There will be better ones available, keep looking. The ZTT and 75 tourer had scant rustproofing applied to the areas which matter most on the underside, ie from the rear of the main floorpan to the rear bumper. Normally speaking if you detect repairs on the topside, then the underside will be much worse. There will be people who disagree, however I'm of the opinion once you start to look closely at the ever increasing problems of corrosion that these cars are inevitably suffering as they increase in age, then it is far better to wait until a good one comes up for sale, simply to avoid a "money pit" I have found early cars to be better than late models, in fact the later the car, the more likely it will be ropey underneath. Ironic really Best of luck in your hunt Brian |

thanks!
thanks Brian. weird thing is I couldn`t see any corrosion under the wheel well but was as if someone had lined the inside (of the wheel well} with aluminium? plate. apart from that the car looked mint and low miles ,service history etc. got to be hiding something I`d thought though. cheers for your advice

Great photo Brian,i reckon you have cleared up in my mind exactly what would be needed on the car in question. Obviously the patch up job is hiding something bad underneath although as I said I couldnt see it from under the car but there must be some serious corrosion going on on top. Could a build up of water leaking into the boot area and running down into the wheel well cause bad enough corrosion to cause corrosion but not show underneath? also for example how much would a repair like that cost ie to have wheel well replaced?
