Default New to a V6, question

As above, now I know this is one of those questions that have probably been done to death but

I've had a ZT190 for just over a week now and very pleased I am with it My question is about the rad fan (3 speed) it's a 53 plate with 77K on the clock (well actually 77777) Trikey had the car on his T4 and confirmed that all three speeds are working, I read on .org that the operational temps are; 96-100c for low, 102-106c for medium and 108-112c for high (this is with the air-con on econ) is this correct?

As I drive the car the temp varies between 91-95c at about 60-65 mph, when standing at lights at roadworks it crept up to 99c at one point dropping soon after setting off,
I would rather worry needlessly (which I tend to do) then find out I don't need to rather than carry on in ignorance and kill it, it appears after 300 miles that it's not loosing any water.

2 speed on 75 v6.

With climate in econ. Fan on at 100 off at 95. Not sure about other speeds but I believe 105 and 112 are significant without AC on. Never got that high *touch wood*

I have the cooler stat fitted so my normal running temps are in the 85 - 90 region when moving unless in traffic. Yours sounds roughly right I think it was low 90s with a std stat.

My 2.5 auto runs at around 93 at constant speed and up to 99 or even touching 100 parked at traffic lights so sounds about right OP.

Earlier car or earlier fan, 3 speeds, but thanks for the advice about the temps, that's a relief, as I said the highest it got to was 99c, coolant flush coming up soon as well just to be sure there is no gunge building up, I think my problem is reading all the horror stories about the V6 when in reality there are many out there that have never gone wrong from day one.
The reason the air-con is off is because of a bit of a whine when running and I don't know if it's ever been re-gassed, I have a 75 (51 plate) and it started doing the same thing, once I had it re-gassed noise gone so fingers crossed it's the same thing.

The numbers are correct Roy, but they should be written like this:

Low speed: cut-in at 100°C, cut-out at 96°C

Medium speed: cut-in 106°C, cut-out 102°C

High speed: cut-in 112°C, cut-out 108°C

Your fan appears to be working correctly.

That's why I've not heard it running while driving then, not hot enough to start I thought it might have been that V6 lump between me and the fan plus the bulkhead between me and the V6 I must admit apart from the mpg compared to the diesel (which I knew about and factored into my decision) it really is nice it also proceeds with great haste, I am told

Hi. "cooler stat?" Where did you get it from? I'd much preffer a slightly cooler stat.
I must say though, I have had four stats in my V6 over the last 14 months and none of them performed the same, and three of them were MG items.
The coolest one was the generic version. Ran so cold, so I put it down to be opening too early as it wasn't stuck open. Steve

Contact Mr Kaiser. Search Kaiser stat. It's a cast metal part with an 82c stat in.

It's a bit of a wait from south africa, a pain to change and I'd wholly recommend buying the original seal (stat to block as kaisers are a little fat), new jubilee clips and plastic straight pipe clips.
