Insurance quotation: any suggestions please?
Just been quoted £271 for comprehensive inurance re a 2004 75 Con diesel auto. This on a 3000 mile basis and i have a ncd and a clean licence. Also live in a small town in the Midlands. I am 69 years old and drive a MB E220d as a daily driver worth about £17000 and it comes in at £344 with a mileage of 12000.
Any suggestions where i can get a decent quote please? |

Have you tried classic car insurers like Lancaster, Classicline, Footman James..? My dad’s insurance for his 2003 2.5V6 saloon with a similar profile/details to you is £200 a year with Classicline and he gets agreed value (£5k), legal cover and breakdown cover for that price.
I’m also listed as a driver on his policy and that can help reduce premiums. |

It’s the same for my Dad
He’s had Rover75 diesel (since it was almost new) - he’s 85 now and his premium is around £375 living in a rural area in North Yorkshire with 3k miles. My ZT V6 is £98 with 3k miles Think it must be an age thing 🤷🏼NAUGHTY WORD-♂️ |

insurance
I have the same problem, been trying for 2 weeks to get a decent quote for 02 cdti max miles 4k a year and couldnt get less than 300, called loads and comp websites just push 1 or 2 companies. Tried Direct line and Footman James, same result. I have my Mg with Footman yet they still wdnt give me less than £300.

IIRC according to Martin Lewis a while ago the best time to seek a quote is 14 - 21 days before renewal date. Basis being that too soon insurers can be gungho about quotes, likewise much nearer renewal and they know you are running out of time so prices stay firm. The timescale 14 -21 days is when they have to be at their most competitive to get your business.
Not sure whether this is true in the current climate but on number of occasions I have found it work for me, even existing insurers who wouldn't budge 28days before renewal have then come back 'cap in hand' when 14 days before when I have told them I am not renewing. I might try classic car insurers this year, not sure what age a car is classed as a classic, for starters I've also a 25yr old Megane Cabriolet that we use for summer fun which I'm hoping will fall into that category.

Time
Well I have been getting quotes 30 days before renewal and no decent deals. My current insurance sent me a renewal notice to say they cd no longer renew through my last insurance so wd cost me 100 more than last year through LV. When I read the policy it says fully comp. Car value 350, but 650 excess. Of course I canceled it, but now am struggling to find a decent rate and I own a 2nd car and only drive max 4 k a year or less between the 2. The mg only costs 110 a year but I drive it more than the Rover. Also it's worth a lot more, on paper, at least. I just don't understand this at all. Also tried 3 classic insurers but they said it didn't qualify due year.
