Question

Wasn't the Toledo a similar looking car?

I think the Toledo was replaced by the Dolomite.
When I was at college, one of the other apprentices had a Dolly Sprint. Twas a rusty wreck of a car, but I seem to recall it went like a greased ferret. To be fair, I was trolling around in a 1256cc Bedford Chevanne (Vauxhall Chevette with no windows), so most cars impressed me with their speed in comparison.

Default Had

I had a Triumph Dolomite 1700HL . Loved it. Especially the wood dash and the circular central warning light between speedo and rev counter.

It had twin carbs and was a very thirsty car.

I had a 1500HL in about 1987 - loved it and it had the same curved dash as the Sprint which seemed cool at the time.

It basically dissolved in rain however so fair play to anyone driving one daily who has managed 300k miles

Thinking about it, if someone said you could have one car you owned back in perfect condition that Dolomite would be extremely high on the list.

The original Sprint had a central "idiots guide" display to what was going on, which as per usual the British Motoring Press derided along the lines of "who needs to know" any proper driver doesn't need this information etc etc. The engine was later used by Saab in their 99 ? did they turbo it? cant remember something like that. The article states he had it Zeibarted from new which accounts for its long life bodywise. Off subject but the Quartic steering on the first Allegro was another motoring press "chortle chortle" whatever idiocy will BL come up with type doing down story. I have lost count of the present day cars which have "rectangular" steering wheels! and GP machines. Chris.S.

Great if you could stop the engine haemorrhaging oil!

I remember the sprint - I was a slip of a lad then!

You could buy it with an optional switchable overdrive.
