I think it is near Donna Nock in Lincolnshire, where the side of the road had sunken away so badly I was worried that I was going to take the underside of the car off, one wheel being so low. I turned around and found another way.

I re-visited the area (for nostalgic reasons) in 2011. The roads in the area at that time was like remote areas elsewhere - reasonably good surface overall and probably laid in the late 60's before the "maintenance suspension" Kev |

Yes they are absolutely shocking and worsening.
I try my best to avoid them but it’s so frustrating when there’s something coming the other way, especially at night, so you’ve got no choice but to hit it. Happened to me the other day. What I will say is everyone who gets in the Rover seems to comment on the quality of the ride. It’s backwards really that as roads have got worse cars have gained increasingly large wheels, low profile tyres and sports suspension. |

You should try some of the roads down here in 1066 country, Some are no more than a layer of tarmac on top of a cart track, East Sussex CC have a very effective speed reducing system here, they just don't bother to properly fill the pot holes in, so they very quickly open up again, each time larger than before, the roads are at best, in a very poor state of repair, some look like they date from 1066,

JCB have a new bit of kit that can do the repairs all in one go.
In Stoke-on-Trent they've managed to do 7 years worth of repairs in 12 months according to a report on the Beeb earlier this week. |

For many local councils, neglected roads will be part of their war on the private motorist. After all, a pothole is just an upside-down speed hump.
