State of the nation's roads
Getting worse in my opinion. Potholes everywhere and some seem like mini replicas of the Grand Canyon or East African Rift Valley. My replacement for the ZT CDTi arriveD on 07/01/23 and dispite being as careful as I can there are now small dings in the outer rim (possibly casused in the dark) already on both front alloy wheels. None when i bought the car. Tyres are low profile but even so!
I reported some potholes to the local highways depot and was told that they are aware of same but have a much reduced workforce to deal with. |

Around these parts, nearly every road is like the surface of the moon.

Am i right in thinking that the road tax is no longer solely used for repairing our roads, but is siphoned off for other projects by the powers that be, whereas 100% should be used to do the roads and not just fill in potholes which last about a week or more

Preston is home to some of the most ambitious challenging terrain for the budding off-roader. We have a wide variety of potholes, valleys, cobbles and sink holes. In fact the sink holes are endless fun because the council 'fills them in' only for the sink hole to absorb the filling and get deeper.
It is rumoured that the council has an off-book contract with the wheel, tyre and suspension companies.

It was Harold Wilson (another Tory wrecker) who said that the law/trans party agreement would no longer be adhered to. I don't know if that was said in his first term or second but that was easily the honest beginning of the start to tax only a certain class in the population. I would not be surprised if "Road Tax" started out providing a surplus and thus it remains to-day. About 20 - 25% of VED is allocated to the road network. There is no chance (unless the Chinese were invited to do the work) for the roads ever to be in good repair with such a low amount allocated (not to mention the high bids for work since the 60's). The roads around Oxfordshire are truly shocking and to rub salt into the wound they are spending £thousands on new 20mph Speed limit signs on all the roads in town that none of the local residents want. I get it that speed kills but when they put a 20mph limit on a road with no pavements and no houses it makes you wonder how they are thinking.
