I remember it well. We married in December that year. It really was freezing. My bride Celia was freezingly beautiful.

Just now, North America is also freezing. Huge swathes are snow and ice-bound, causing many deaths and paralysing travel. That'll be that wholly, woolly minded, awfully silly, global heating then. That's five words in a row containing double ll's. For the life of me I can't think of any others in the vernacular to describe a fallacy. Oh! there, just done it again, but there is one more I can't print.

I was only a couple of weeks old at the time. I recently watched a program about the winter of 63, the people there put us to shame.

They were hardy back then.

I was 9 nearly 10, great time sledging in the Forest of Dean. We could even sledge on the icy roads as there was no traffic. As I recall, no school for about 5 weeks.

Remember it well. training in Folkestone area October and returning from home leave Boxing day (I think) and snow started while on the train from London. And that was it, no drill or football and bitter winds off the Channel. Hardy? well we may think so but really it was just a question of "coping" Thats a word that has gone out of use is'nt it. I also missed it, as I didn’t arrive until mid-March.

I walked several miles to school, only to be told to go home as it was shut! Very entertaining, to watch the trolley buses skating back to the "sheds" and the coalmen dropping off bags of coal as the bags retaining their full shape as they were frozen! (hessian bags before the polyprop era)

I have no memories of my first two years so consequently none of that winter.
