Default Removal of kick plates. Advice please

I am having the car under sealed on Tuesday and that will take care of the underside and any access to the sills will be utilised from underneath.

Having read so much on here about getting cavity wax into sills it seems using the fixing holes for the chrome kick plates is also desirable.

So to help me take these off ( the front chrome ones with 'Rover' marked on them) also the rear ones, could some kind person give me some tips?

I understand they are on clips which can be brittle. Also I don't want to bend the chrome strips.
I plan to use Dynax S50 aerosols with the probe attached to inject.

Many thanks,

Harry

I believe that on the nearside, there is some access via the inside where the wiring runs from the main fusebox to the rear lights etc. Not sure about the offside though?

to get the plates off.............get the thinnest strongest blade you have.....carefully insert under the plate and twist the blade

they are only located into the holders but can snaps yes......but they do only push in.

Hi Harry, the sill to floor plastic covers (carpet finishers) on my 75 kept coming off when I first got the car as the wrong clips had been used. They would probably be easier to remove than the chrome strips. The holes for the clips go right through the sill and with four in the front and three at the rear (or three in the front and two in the rear?) on both sides would give you access to get good coverage.

You can pry the finishers out using a wide bladed spatula (or similar) to spread the load. I'd recommend using new clips such as available from Rimmers, as the general purpose ones seen on the bay don't hold very well.

The actual carpet finishers slide off, they have a slot into which the clip fits. That's why the clips break because people prise them off instead of sliding them I always have plenty spare from EBay, yellow ones, or red ones

Thanks to Jim and Ronnie there

Plastic ones seem safer than prying up the Chrome strips as I was afraid I might kink them.

So yellow and red clips from Ebay Ronnie???? for the price they are I'll get some for spares.

Here you go Harry, he's got plenty of different sizes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-SILL...item27d33eac0d
A little tip for refitting the trim, put the clips into the trim first, then just press home

Hi Harry,

Just lever the trims up gently, they are quite forgiving, if you kill one or two, I have a few spares

Cheers Andy.
I'll give it a go. Once I get stuck in I'll no doubt do both the steel and plastic bits.
Hope you had a good holiday
