The number plate board may be relatively new but did you check the number plate lights anyway. Could be an iffy connection, I had the light come up after hitting a pothole, went out again when I hit the next one!

Do you have any l.e.d bulbs? If so the internal resistors can pop but the bulb will still illuminate.

A case of replace with standard bulbs and hope you get the culprit on the 1st try. Assuming I'm correct of course lol
Good luck.

I presume you don't have the message centre which greatly simplifies finding a dodgy bulb. I kept getting the warning flashing up on my 1.8T not long after I got it and couldn't find the cause, ended up replacing every bulb at the rear which finally cured it.

I had it with LEDs where the light itself failed but the internal resistor fooled the warning system into thinking it was still working.
