Default Bosal exhaust scam??

I have just purchased what purported to be a Bosal rear silencer for my 2.5 V6. Mister Auto listed 4 makes for my car - GT, Walker, Bosal and MTS. Bosal was second most expensive at £87 quid. It arrived today. Although it has a Bosal sticker on it, with the correct Bosal part number, it is definitely NOT a Bosal exhaust. It looks nothing like the picture shown on the Mister Auto website. It appears, in fact, to have been made by polish manufacturer POLMO (as evidenced by the large 'P' stamped on the exhaust, which is the POLMO trademark). To say I am annoyed is a major understatement. Polmo is one of, if not THE, cheapest exhaust brands on the market. I could have bought the same exhaust off the Bay for about £30 less. The exhaust I received oozes a lack of quality - it looks tatty and badly made - the 'zinc' coating has been applied over paper on one section - and the bracket that came with it (to attach to the car) can only be described as lightweight rubbish.

I have seen posts saying that Bosal went out of business in 2013. I didn't believe this as Bosal products continue to be sold. It would appear, however, that someone is selling exhausts made by other parties as Bosal - merely applying Bosal stickers. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

You have to return this to them, I have had grief with Mister Auto before and Mintex brake discs, definitely not genuine items I received, I complained and they had them collected from me.
I see they no longer sell Mintex, so many fakes about.

This is also a problem related to using "generic" pictures, "by way of illustration.

I have read good.reports of gt exhausts in belfast, in terms of quality and fitting for our cars. I haven't had one from them for over 25 years now though (for a long since dead toyota). May be worth a visit or call.

I'm waiting to hear from Longlife in Bangor ref having a Stainless box fitted. I'd read on here that they'd developed a system for the 75 that was nice and quiet. Will probably be pricey but my V6 has only 37k miles on the clock so I'll hopefully get my money's worth out of it. The garbage Polmo box is going back!!

HI Andy
Do you have any photo's of said item that you could post up, also a thank you for posting or findings on these items, it is the only way of getting these sub standard parts of the market.

Have you contacted Mister Auto ? if so what was their reply about a copy or a substandard product that they have sent out.

I have attached photos of the silencer. The strap around it is mild steel, around 2mm thick - I doubt if it would last a year. I suspect that the sprayed-over paper is the original Polmo sticker!!

Mister Auto says sorry and please return the item!!

That doesn't look a good exhaust at all, I have fitted various types over the years but that bracket is the worst I have seen.

I bought a Bosal "Clam" type for a ZT 180 a few years back that was good quality but the back pipe that went to the middle section needed pinching in a bit to stop it hitting the rear arm. That looks the cheapest of the cheap they sell here in Coventry they last about 13 months if lucky and go rusty after a few weeks lol!
