Odd Whistle in car
Hi all,
An odd one this. I've got an 04 75 connie 2.0 CDTi (mileage 178000) and when I switch on the engine I often get a whistle in the car similar to a wolf whistle. It only lasts a few seconds and then disappears. If I'm in slow moving traffic or stationary at traffic lights it often whistles again. Sometimes the whistle seems associated with a louder engine tick over. I have no idea of where the whistle comes from but it sounds more as if it comes from within the car and not the engine compartment. The car runs well but if in a queue of traffic the engine hunts a bit. I'm worried that something is going wrong but I haven't got a clue as to what it is. I've searched on the site and can't see anything similar. Anyone got any ideas as to what it might be so i can rectify it. Cheers, Nasher |

Yes, a whalw whoop is a good description.
I'm sure I need the air con re gassing as during the very hot weather the air con struggled to cool the car down and if I put it on at 18 C or lower it just seemed to blow warm air. If I set it around 20 the car slowly cooled. If it is air con related how do I cure it. Thanks for any suggestions. |

Apart from insufficient refrigerant (gas) and loss of the low speed fan cooling, this effect is commonly due to the condenser losing too much of the cooling fins.
