All cars are fitted with an IPK, the lowline IPK has symbols for warning signs etc, and the highline IPK has a Message Centre trip computer.

the highline IPK can be retrofitted if you don't have it already

The mylar ribbon has an embedded chip, these can degrade and have microfractures which are impossible to repair.
Sometimes though it's down to the soldered connection between the ribbon and the circuit board that cause the problem, sometimes this can be fixed but it's best left to those with the necessary equipment.

Rick may be able to help with this.

New screens and ribbons (all one piece) are available but they aren't cheap
