Default Hydromount thing

Anyone got any clues on what that bit is actually doing ?

As a spacer its a bit over the top in design, the shape well errm !!

Possibly as some form of damper, but then it not very heavy ?

Asking as I've just replaced my old 150k mount with a new one , and not sure if its done anything significant ?

And as the new mount was over 20mm taller I left this out, but only reclaimed about 7mm height.

It was only fitted to diesels the idea is that it adds more mass to the mount to help with vibration

Don't know why the new mounts should be taller than the originals unless somehow the old one has reduced in hieght due to wear/age?

Think i may pop it back on as i still get vibes about 1800-2000 rpm, especially when the motor is cold .

Wondered about damping as its not very weighty ?

The Mount is one of those diesel/2.5 ones from DMGRS ..

Took out this damper as the motor was visibly on the slant with the new hydromount in ..

thinks it was omitted later with the project cost savings ???

SO may of them do that mate, including mine – sometimes. Years ago I had various engine mounts, including this one, replaced -didn’t really help. I just put up with it now – seems to have got a lot less as the motor has aged.

You’ve put your finger on something with the cold though – mine is definitely worse in colder weather, and I don’t just mean when the ENGINE is cold

There was a post about the weight/damper thing by Steve1966 a while ago, he worked on designing th engine mounts for the cars. Have a search if interested.

Popped this damper lump back on its either a placebo or its a weeny bit better or its moved the buzz up the rev range a bit ..

Here some pics of the mounts in question

The base of the old original factory fit mount ..

Side views of the original mount

as you can see still very good nick at nearly 150k .

----------------------------------------
the new 2.5 type mount

Not sure what the numbers mean on the mounts ??

------------------
And both together .. the new one is taller .. and has been on for a week or so ..

C.

PS ..... anyone tried the one size fits all lower mounts that are bandied around nowdays
