Oil Service Mileage reset success (I think)
Just done an oil and filter change on my 05 1.8T connie SE
I managed to reset the mileage counter I found the trick was to connect the bridging wire to either pin 4 or 8 first but not both then only connect the other pin when the oil service milegae shows immediately after turning the ignition on. The only problem I can see now is rather than it saying oil inspection 15000 miles it just says inspection 15000 miles Is this normal? Where has the word oil gone? Thanks Stu

In broad terms, they alternate every 15,000 miles or annually, which ever occurs first. Both services require an oil change. The service display advises you when the car's next service is due. The mileage ticks down from the starting point of 15,000 to zero (assuming you do more than 15,000 miles a year). If you don't cover 15,000 or more, the screen is more or less a redundant feature since you have to service it by the calendar. Either way, when you do the reset, the service type changes from one to the other. If it previously said 'Oil Service' it will now show 'Inspection'. What you describe sounds right to me. TC |

I just took the car for a spin about 10 miles after doing my oil change and resetting the service counter and the service counter isnt counting down
It still says inspection 15000 miles !! Have I broken something?

You're ok - mine counts down in 25 mile increments . I believe this is usual.

That's why Haynes doesn't really recommend it (they award it 4 out of 5 stars for difficulty). They also state that the hair pin dodge was never approved by MGR, in spite of what many people assert. With plug-in resetters down to £25 a shot, I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth the risk?
