Looks utterly fantastic, Rick. At some point, I have to bite the bullet and get the Spectre resprayed, which I know is going to cost a fortune but I've committed myself to returning it to showroom condition at some point. I'm interested in where you got the paint and the problems you had finding it. Maybe I need to start stockpiling the paint now? I had the Primrose Yellow one resprayed in 2015 but I won't get those rates again! James

Paint has a short shelf life, so it's not worth stockpiling it I'm afraid James.

PPG was the original supplier of this type of paint, but as Rick will attest, others will closely replicate the finish.

It should be noted that PPG operate some strange "closed" colour codes, PPG 73219 is the code for the red paint used on my tool box, but you cannot get it mixed, and the formulation will not be released.

Thanks for that, Brian. I'll try to get away with just the bonnet and bumpers so I hope they'll be able to mix to a very close match. Chris Demery did a brilliant job polishing it but there's nothing he can do with stone chips. It's currently sitting with its gearbox half-in and half-out after the replacement box failed too. Loads to do on it but it will arise again!

Spectre - my favourite monogram colour.

Looking good, Rick.

Looking good James, hope the house is coming on too. Often think about you after meeting at Gaydon and I mentioned you to Carole just the other day, hope life is treating you well

Mostly yours, and unpaid too I hasten to add

It's amazing what can be achieved when you rely on others to help out, isn't it?, still hopefully the person who painted this can rectify the problems in the paint finish when Rick returns the car.

He doesn't take criticism well, however in this instance it is entirely justified.

Of course this shouldn't have happened in the first instance, given the length of time that the painter had the car, and certainly for the money that he charged Rick, the preparation and finish should have been perfect the first time around.

I assume you have industrial quantities of cling film now to keep the car from any gravel rash or did you go for the enamel hardcoat option?
It does look darker under artificial lighting but the standard colour looked dark when parked indoors at stoneleigh as well. The finish is darker than the original, but still looks typhoon.

Apparently the front bumper has been lacquered with a sort of stonechip protection

Thank you I got the paint from specialist paints in the end. Not sure if you'll have similar issues sourcing spectre, specialist paints to offer that colour. As Brian said these paints don't have a very long shelf life, although I have heard of a few cases where paint was kept on the shelf for years and then used and it was still ok.
