Changing headlights mk1
Hi,
How difficult is it to change mk headlights? I ask as I maybe coming over to the UK for longer than I expected. So rather than fitting the beam deflectors I thought just swap out the light units. Are the beam adjusters completely independent of the fitting screws? Ie if I take off my old lights, can I then in theory put them back on in 6 months time and not worry about adjusting them? Cheers Dave |

If you've got projectors, just lift the beam deflector lever to suit UK

What type of lights do you have ???
Would take you about an hour and a half to change the units complete. ( Bumper off job. ) Re-fitting. They might go back close to the position they came off from. Slight play in fixing screws might not make it exact. |

Yes you can refix your originals as the beam set up is all in the headlights

Nope just normal lights.
Because its likely i'm potentially going to be there for at least 6 months I wanted something more robust than stick on deflectors. Hence swapping them over for a RHD set. So is it fairly easy and do the adjusters work independently from the fixing screws ( or whatever it is that fits them to the car ) The insurance people have just confirmed I can use the car abroad for an extended period which means I dont have to buy a UK registered car. edit Quote:

Your insurance may be ok over here, but I think if you are using a foreign registered car over here for more than six months, you have to register it here and have GBnumber plates fitted. Not sure but if I were you I would check. You only need to bump into a zealous copper over here.

The insurance is a real grey area for anything over 6 months which is why I asked the insurance company. Their view is they will insure me for 180 days regardless but will need to confirm the car location at that time where they will then cover me in 90 day intervals without having to return to the peninsula. They haven't yet told me what the maximum amount of time they will insure me for.
Officially I'm a Spanish resident but after 6 months in theory I'm a UK resident, however...I'm allowed to spent 2 years out of Spain for special purposes ( looking after a relative, working ) before my residency is revoked. Its an absolute mess and I have had to get lawyers involved to make sure that I'm doing things legally here in Spain. But even they have struggled to get their head around a UK national, Spanish resident returning to work in the UK for a coup!e of years and the implications therein. Don't get me started on the tax implications...and then you need to add Brexit into the mix.... Edit...just found this. https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicle...porary-imports. Looks like 6 months it is. Last edited by Daveluck; 18th December 2018 at 20:10.. |

Hi, here you can see the removal of the bumper, at the end of the movie automatically a new movie pops up with the change of the headlights unit.
