It definitely isn't Rocket Science. Take it from someone who had a hand in the design of this before I retired.---

What, you helped design a fence post? ......

Seriously, battery terminals 1st check and using a multimeter to check voltage isn't difficult at all

Thanks for all the replies

Think my first port of call is to charge the battery then I'll take it from there. There is a Rover/MG mechanic based a few miles from where i live in Derby city centre so will take it there assuming i can get up and running.

Am i right in saying even if the alternator isn't working and assuming the battery is ok and i can fully charge it i'd get a couple of days driving out of it?

would starting the car, turning on everything electrical, with headlights on and horn button pressed and engine ticking over, would headlights get a bit brighter if engine is revved and alternator is working?

Charged battery and took it it to Halfords. They tested it. Battery is good. They said its definitely alternator and quoted me £620 to change it. Had this car 2 weeks...

I'll get one on ebay but cant fit myself so will have to take it to a garage and pay them to fit it. Wonder how long battery will last on this charge?
