Broken down....
Hi guys
Got in the ZT for work this morning and....click.... I thought battery maybe with it standing so long . Jumped in the Avensis so I wasnt late, but now as I sit here I am worried. It clicked likevthe battery but every time I tried it the headlights came on? Can this be normal? She started on the button yesterday. No tiredness when I cranked. Obviously no time to investigate this morning. But the lights coming on? My Contemporary didnt do that with a naff battery? Worried now! |

Hi Dawn, as said typical symptoms of a battery with insufficient power to start the engine. In the first instance remove the battery and charge for 24 hours.
If it happens again it is either: 1. New battery time 2. Check alternator for output 3. Check battery drain when car has gone to sleep

Definitely sounds like a flat battery to me. Firstly get it charged up and check voltage when you get it running on the IPK cluster. If you've got a volt meter check battery voltage first, need 12.4volts minimum I'd say.

Hi Dawn.
As above most likely battery, if not it could be the starter motor contacts, if it is the battery please remember the excellent rule from Big Russ in the link below, this applies to all members. Big Russ Rule https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=106447

I agree with the above, batteries nowadays don’t give the same warnings, they just give up.
I was waiting in our 75 diesel outside the airport perimeter at Glasgow to pick up the missus and when she txt me to come in to collect her the car wouldn’t start. I had to get a friend to come the 30 odd miles to jump start me before I could collect her. |

IIRC the giveaway is the headlights coming on, this doesn't happen if it is the contacts on the Sol and or the spade connector

As per every other post - my ZT-T was exactly the same with a duff battery.
It may just be flat - but bear in mind a battery can fail without warning at any time.
