Brian is right though, a lot of our cars, like it or not are coming to the end of their life. Yes, there's some well looked after and low mileage examples, but the majority haven't had the necessary maintenance done or to an acceptable standard or poor quality parts used.

I spend half my time trying to put right what others have done.

Thanks to the lack of quality of some parts Russ, I spend half my time putting right what I've done.

Well that's the other thing, I would say that over half the parts I replaced (which had lasted probably 100,000 miles) lasted much less than 10,000 miles before you had to replace them again - err no thanks......

If you don't drive them a long way or very often they are great - otherwise buy something a bit newer - if you want a reliable everyday car that is.

Very true Russ, I think there will be a massive decline in the numbers of our cars on the road over the next few years as all the tatty, poor examples that are costing their owners too much to keep going will be scrapped. It will be a case of survival of the fittest.

...or most pampered! At one end of the scale, there are daily drivers run on a shoestring, and covering 12,000+ miles a year. Then there are the pride-and- joy, low-mileage show-stoppers, on which many £s and hours are lavished to keep them in better-than-original condition. Each play their part in promoting the breed! At the end of the day, it comes down to a value judgement, and what you can afford. And there are plenty of us keeping our fingers crossed that these lovely cars carry on being lovely for us!
