Manifold Rattle.
Morning folks, I have a slight rattle which would appear to be coming from the left hand side of the Manifold as you look from the front, could it be a shot Viz motor or something else. I want this car to be 100%, as I have just got it. Rev |

It could be a very worn butterfly assembly within the manifold or a very slight worn butterfly assembly within the manifold amplified by a failed power vis motor.
To check: Engine off, keys in pocket Disconnect the plug to the power vis motor, remove the four crosshead screws holding the vis motor in place and lift off the vis motor. This will reveal a brown arm in the manifold. 1st check Is: The brown arm slides passenger side to drivers side. before you do anything else, is the arm fully to the drivers side? if not the Power Vis has failed. 2nd check: check the arm for movement side to side smooth but firm action. 3rd check: Check the arm for movement up and down, there should only be the flex of the arm, if you can feel a clickyness (word??) then this is wear in the six individual flap joints which are really irreparable. So, if the arm is not fully over to the drivers side on your first inspection and it passes 2nd and 3rd check you can confirm the noise could be due to a failed power vis. If all three checks are passed it is likely all is in good order but occasionally power vis motors do fail in the correct rest position but would not cause a rattle. D...

When you say the six individual flap joints are the ones inside the manifold. Rev |

Yes, they are realistically not accessible and if you do butcher the manifold to get to them they are currently none repairable.

Right just an update, tried to take the cover of the power viz, got three screws out, the other beggar was so tight the head sheared off, anyway the upshot is the back of the cover was quite tidy no oil Ect!, the slide bar for the flaps was moving quite smoothly back and forward, but still got this rattle?.
