Default Dash Lights

Have just picked up my new car, a ZT 190, on a 51 plate.

On turning it off the ignition last night and locking the car I noticed that the section on the dash that contains the Odometer/Outside Temp & Trip Meter was still illuminated. It has been all night.

Got in the car this morning and its still "on", and the car started up just fine.

Is this correct and if not what is the likely cause?

Cheers chaps, Muttley

Default Dash Lights Fail!

Hmmm.

It has now come to a head!

Have had no problems starting etc since bringing it home.

Went to get in this afternoon, all okay.
Turned the ignition key and everything went off (as in no dash lights or anything!)

Got out and locked the car mechanically, okay.
Then had a thought and tried to unlock mechanically, nothing doing!

So I am locked out, the remote unlock isn't working, the mechanical unlock isn't working. I can, however, get into the boot via the key (this one doesn't have remote boot unlock).

It appears that there is no power getting to the car from the battery.
So how do I get into either the passenger compartment to open the bonnet and check under there, OR, how do I open the bonnet to get power to the system so I can unlock the doors etc via the remote?

Detailed, easy to understand and execute answers on an email or post to this forum please?

(BTW its a 51 plate ZT 190)

Cheers, Muttley

How to get under the bonnet in the event of a broken release cable etc is now posted in the Subscribers general section: https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=274518

Default Dash Lights Fail!

I have read in other posts via the search function that when some members have had no power to the system and cannot get in, they could power up the cars systems via a jump to the starter (for pos) and an earth point on the body.

As this is a 190 that option isn't a go'er, however as I can get in through the boot is it possible to power up via one of the light feeds at the rear lights, if only to provide sufficient power for the remote unlocking?

I have a feeling it will be bad news but I've gotta ask before I drag Mr RAC to start bending doors etc?

I will try the boot cable trick in the morning before trying Mr RAC though!

Cheers Fellah's, Muttley

Default Dash Lights - Success! (ish)

Well, got in the boot, pushed the ski hatch open, hooked the end of a coat hanger around the o/s rear door handle and pulled, door popped open!

(This door does not unlock on the remote key for some reason )

Reached through and opened the drivers door.

Key in the ignition, dash lights on.

Turned key, door locks all clicked, turned further and she started up.

Ticked over for 10 minutes, turned her off. Turned her on again.

Turned her off, got out, remote locked her

Remote unlocked her, remote locked her.

Don't ask me what happened, I am now able to get in and out and start her up. Result!!!

Will have to try the battery disconnect for 20 minutes to see if that cancels the dash lights

Cheers for your indulgence, Muttley

(I shall however keep the stick with the coat hanger in the boot, just in case )

Strange the driver's door didn't manually unlock on the key. I had it happen once when a (MGR dealer!) changed the lock unit and didn't properly locate the rubbery link piece between the lock and the bracket up to the barrel assembly on (only) the driver's door. Worth getting the door-liner off and feeling around in there. It may have even been lost by a previous owner/mechanic, who didn't realise its significance.
