Question Double DIM Double DIN Questions.

Although I got this Unit back in the summer, only now have I had a close look at it and offered it up to the central aperture in my daily driver ZT-T.

I had planned to butcher the DD Fascia Aperture in the pool of spares ZT but as the 75/ZT [ MG 7? ] item comes ready to fit, posted for only £14.34p not worth the trouble. Is that the case... ready to fit?

One other minor issue. The Aerial Cable is not a straight fit as the ANT location is female on the back of the unit as is the female connection on the car's aerial cable. I could not find a suitable adaptor in my box of useful connectors so I will need to obtain one.

Without the aerial connection there was zero radio reception but the CD worked very well. I had Flock of Seagulls bursting out that superb Guitar stuff soon after inserting the disc. So that works just fine as do the connectors to the car's speakers.

Any pointers for a suitable male to female aerial adaptor would be appreciated from those been there, got one will be appreciated.

I had planned to fit it ages ago but, went on the back burner. What spurred me into action today. My CD-80 lost it's visual display ( are the internal bulbs accessible and replacable if that's what it is. Also tape cassettes no longer accepted.

Shall look forward to fitting this gizmo and having it working.

Hi,

Not sure what connector you have on the back of the unit so I searched two common options:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Male-Fakr...d/232731305995

or

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Aeria...t/202544390884

BTW I needed the Fakra one for my Xtrons

I'd say: you're good to go

Placing these units can sometimes be a PITA especially if you're not the first owner of the car. I had some issues with my current car which seem to have had some serious open heart surgery in the past

Let us know if we can help you if need be.

It's not quite ready to fit.
The fascia adaptor fits over the front of the double din.
You'll notice the double din has no cage to allow fitment like a single din so you need to mount the radio into the car then fit the fascia over the top.
Have a search as they'll be a few threads on the subject if I remember I'll take a few pictures if mine later today.

When I had a d/din, I used one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-75-...28Cx:rk:3:pf:0
Upside down in the link, & I know Trebor did a "how to" for fitting a cage, using the "L" bracket fitted to the bulkhead

These huge L-shaped brackets are supposed to be mounted to the back of the fascia. At least that was the case with the unit in my X-type. If you haven 't received any screws or bolts you will have to find some that fit. Or buy a fascia that has them included.

Or something like this may help: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Stere...N/183126284091

You place the frame in the fascia and place it in your center console. After that you place the unit in the frame. It is highly unlikely to get a good fit if you place the radio first and the fascia later. You simply don't have a reliable construction to mount the radio to if you place it first. The fascia and cage will provide a stable fitting.

Pictures of the cage I used for my X-type:

Removed mine from the old zt this morning.
I made some wooden packets which were bonded onto the fascia and then used brackets I had lying around to fix the head unit to the fascia.

I respect the work Wulli has put in to his construction but I would get a cage so you can easily place and remove the unit (quite handy in the first few weeks of using your unit ). A bit more expensive maybe but a lot easier to fit in the fascia/surround

Some people have found that you might need to cut away some of the sound insulation. These units have all needed some fettling to get in.

One of the problems is making sure the unit is angled correctly to stop light reflection.

I had to shave some plastic off the surround to make sure I had the right angle.
