Don't forget the "Micheal Fish" factor, they now over emphasise the warnings, just in case.

Only a dusting here so far, but it is very cold. Had wondered about trying long johns - guess pride has always stopped me! However, if they cut down on heating bills, perhaps I should give them a go!

That made me laugh out loud. 1982, Celia and I rode our Yamaha 850 from Saltash (Cornwall) to the Bike show in London. And back!

Midwinter, absolutely frrreezin cold. With generous layer of snow. Both of us had our very own versions of what eventually became onesies, we were the first (again), and I had four copies of the News of The World inside the chest area of my leathers. I was so cold I pulled up sideways on to the wall of the bike parking floor on top of the venue so I could lean against it and get off without bending. Celia fell off. But then she is a girl.

None of the photos I've seen so far look any worse than anything I've seen for the last 5-6 years. What vexes me about this is the "cry wolf" factor - when some properly serious snowstorms hit - which may or may not happen this weekend - some people will undoubtedly be caught out because nothing significant came of the last dozen hyped up non-events. It was bad for about three winters on the trot from 2011-2013, and there were weeks if not months of -8, -10, -12 at night for one of them. Worst it ever got here was -17 (confirmed on two cars). But only three times in my life have I ever failed to complete a journey because of snow - the first of those was because of 12 foot drifts, the second because a blizzard hit earlier than forecast and a mere four miles into my journey there were six more inches of snow on the ground (in order to avoid getting stuck as I turned back, I used the momentum of the car and an empty junction to do one of the longest, slowest 180 drifts you would ever have seen!). Sure, it takes longer, but so long as you're sensible, allow loads of extra journey time, assume all other road-users are idiots with a death wish and don't drive beyond your talent then you should be fine.

I was due to go to a residents meeting with our housing association today but it was called off yesterday because of the weather forecast..
Guess what
Been blue skies and sunshine all day long here in Weymouth temp around 3.5 degrees with only a very light frost first thing and that was gone by 9am.
Cheers Ian

We have around 3" here - most of which came in an hour and half, between 7.30am and 9.00am this morning. At least it's dry, powdery snow which is a darned sight easier to shift than the wet, slushy, heavy stuff.

I could have sworn my car was black when I parked it up on Monday afternoon

Garden looks scenic mind you

as do the hills (edge of the North Yorks Moors)

As I type, the sky has turned a rather threatening shade of dark grey to the East, and it's started snowing heavily.

We have an amber warning for snow in force from 6am tomorrow for 36 hours but they're now saying it could be upgraded to red!
