Default Sex Robots are coming, Robots & AI

Few years ago saw a programme Love me love my doll.
Strange blokes in love with a full size doll.

This week it was about a company trying to turn a doll into a robot... a sex robot. Again 2 strange blokes with dolls, At first the female robot was so false but when she smiled it was so life like it was amazing. The company were trying to give the doll/robot Artificial Intelligence so it could hold a conversation with it's owner and in time become a "lover" or sex object.

whilst I think it strange, I can see that a robot with AI could be good company for some people but as a partner mmmmm I don't know.

What of the future? How long before we have such capable robots that could keep house? Perhaps saving money looking after the elderly and disabled. If they can take over jobs, what becomes of us financially?

Could we ever find ourselves in the situation as in the film Terminator?

I think Ian, since you retired, you've got far too much time on your hands, or your robot's hands

was not even day time tv
I don't know how I found time to work. I can fill all daylight hours with house work or DIY. Keep finding new jobs to do.

Aside from the cheesier side of things (I haven't watched the show in the OP, but the trailer seemed a bit clickbaity), it's worth reflecting on how soon and how radically artificial intelligence can bring about changes to the way we live. In terms of fictional productions exploring the concept, I thought the Channel 4 show "Humans" was very good - worth watching if you haven't caught it. In a similar vein, the movie "Ex Machina" was also intelligently & subtly done. Both provide a very plausible view into a possible future where AI is on the cusp of becoming a transformative factor in human existence. I've a feeling this is one area where science fiction is genuinely likely to become science fact, and sooner rather than later - perhaps in as little as 10-15 years.

it's brilliant. Having worked for the same company for 35 years I cannot believe that I don't give it a second thought.
I did not realise there was a weight on my shoulders until I retired and then they felt lighter. I don't have the evening before work feeling and its great to carry on with a job tomorrow or replace one job with another

Robotic dolls are fine as long as the AI can't detect the enthusiasm when the man say "yes, of course dear" every few minutes.
