Channel Bridge - again
Once again, the idea of a bridge over the English Channel between England and France has been discussed, well mentioned, in a discussion between the Foreign Secretary Boris and France's President, M. Macron.
Before the Channel tunnel, I suggested they build it direct under France, to Spain, they didn't do that. The tunnel is very busy. A bridge, well, the English Channel is apparently the most dangerous shipping lane in the world. There are on average twenty six collisions between shipping, each year. A bridge would have to be high enough to allow all current and future sized ships to pass below it, and economically that highest zone would have to be in one area, therefore all shipping would then have to pass through that "chicane"; bringing ships that travel miles apart, but still collide, to within a few hundred feet of each other. How often are the QE2 or Severn bridges closed due to high winds? and all that traffic, then would have to find alternative routes. Shipping is controlled by a separation system, all going toward the North Sea on the south, and those toward the Atlantic, on the north side. Good luck to the planners, who will be on a high salary for years before deciding whether, OR NOT, that the scheme will go ahead. Meanwhile, the NHS is pleading for funds and provisions, and Heathrow's third runway is really no nearer. All my own opinions. |

don't want a bridge.
someone I used to work with lived near Heathrow, his house was bought from him in preparation of the 3rd runway and he will get a bonus once it goes ahead. its not the governments fault the NHS is underfunded, I know this cos they tell me so God bless the NHS, let ambulances charge for stupid call outs, the ones where they go out to someone that stubbed their little toe a week ago type of thing or for picking up drunk people. Let them refuse to go out to repeat offenders that waste their time. Let criminals that assault police pay more compensation and fines, let them pay for the damage they cause. Lets chop their right hand off for first offence and left for second without them being able to claim any help from government, bet I still missed a lot out macafee2 |

That strip of water has saved us from who knows what in the past. The fewer links, over or under it, the better. I thought that it was April 1st when I read it, then I read that it was Boris. Enough said!

It would make a good marathon course for the migrants with the finishing line at our end

I confess, I was one of the mugs who was conned into putting some of his hard earned into the current tunnel when it was still a hole in the ground. Never, and I mean NEVER, again.
My preference would be for any new bridging project to be focused on the Irish Sea. |

They cant even build one over to the IOW, so many reasons have been given over the years and that is only 4 miles not 20.

Boris: let's build a bridge from England to France.
Us: why not use the money to fund the NHS instead. !! |

More like,
Boris: We're going to build a bridge. It's going to be BIG. And it's going to be BEAUTIFUL. And the FRENCH are gonna pay for it! Can someone remind me what happened to the last bridge he planned, a footbridge across the Thames? |
