Default ATS Exhaust versus Longlife Exhaust

Good morning,

let me start from the beginning. Two years ago I had to replace the 13 year old original exhaust on my Rover. Unfortunately at the time I could not afford a S/S exhaust so I had a Karius back box fitted by ATS. This lasted 6 months - one of the mounts tore off the back box. ATS did replace it under warranty.
Yesterday I had my MOT and on my way home it fell off! When I got home & the exhaust had cooled off I jacked the car up to have a look. One of the read rubber mounts had deteriorated so I replaced that, but the exhaust was still loose. I checked down the length of the system I saw that the mid section had come apart ATS did refit it last night for me though.
While I was waiting for the exhaust to cool, I had phoned LongLife in Peterborough about have a Stainless exhaust made & fitted - I had presumed the exhaust was damaged & would need replacing.

My question is, has anyone had a s/s exhaust fitted recently? If so, what sort of price would I be looking at? Ideally I would be wanting it to be made as quiet as the original.

However, I am in two minds about having this done now, seeing as the exhaust is now correctly fitted. On one hand it would be nice to have a high quality exhaust, on the other I can leave it & save the money.

Decisions, decisions....

Rob

A stainless Powerflow system from the cat. back would cost in the region of £500 and you can specify how you require it to sound. I have two of these systems fitted to my V6's and they are guaranteed for as long as you keep the car. There are, of course, many other choices out there if you ask around.

Agree with Trikey, Tony Banks in Leeds, I had mine done about a year ago, it was about £360, you tell him (and it actually is Tony Banks) what you want, he tells you what the options are and away you go, car porn
I asked for something that would let out the noise of the V6 but not annoy the neighbours

Thanks Gents.

I'm afraid the drive to Leeds from Newmarket would make the price difference irrelevant!
I am seriously tempted to s/s but it may be best to wait until the exhaust actually needs changing. Besides, I need to have the starter motor for the Spitfire rebuilt, then I will need a s/s system for that

Thanks,

Rob

MY V6 ZTT has a longlife SS exhaust. It was on the car when I bought it (from the previous owners widow) and have all the part numbers on the invoice including sports CAT. That was £450 about three years ago. It had only a single rear box and was just a little too 'sporty' for my ears, especially on motorways so i went back to the same palce in Watford. They fitted an extra box in the centre (required removal of one of the centre straps) for £100.

In truth, not as quiet as I had hoped but more bearable and I still love the sound so much at start-up and burbling along in fifth in 25mph traffic. The quality is bang on and should last as long as the car (or more).

Anybody had experience with MIJ exhausts? I was thinking of having one as soon as mine needs doing.

Tony Banks knows what he's doing though - I used to use his exhausts exclusively when I used to build race cars because they were extremely good for the price, the quality and fit of Longlife one's can vary hugely depending on which branch you go to.

Thanks Ian, I had forgotten Powerflow. As my exhaust isn't damaged & is in good nick, I'm going to leave it until it actually does need replacing. Its good to know that there's someone closer to do it. Although Peterborough isn't too bad as my dad lives nearby!
