From all the evidence the problem seems to boil down to the bores, rings and pistons.
Exchange bottom end required.--- |

Exchange everything required is what I am thinking. Looking at the bill again, I think I got it wrong, it had liner shims, not liners, but the cost of the fix and a radiator was still £750, all for a car I am now afraid to go out in!
Its booked for mot on the 27th to see what/if there are any more horrors, as it will be the first mot in my ownership. (not at the garage that did the work I might add!) Then Trikey has very generously offered to help me find out what is really wrong with the engine and hopefully figure the best solution! (Thank you Andy) |

A compression test is quite quick and easy and a good starting point.
