I had a starter button on the floor of my 1964 850 mini. My dad's 1951 Ford V8 Pilot & his 1956 Rover 75 both had starter buttons. Neither though had a complex and very good immobiliser.

Buy a Rover P4 (before the 100/110). Nice push button start. The P4, every thing the 75 could have been. And here I would have liked to show you a nice P4, with push button starter, but I can't be bothered with the hosting of pictures on a remote server required here. The Jaguar forum lets people browse their computer and you can directly upload pics. But here? no ways. Nonsense.

This has to be the best starter button in the world.

Well kaiser that's a huge step from installing a start stop button to buying a new car ahah, I will stick to my lady for now and try to improve it, by the way, I think I am coming closer to a solution, I will state here exactly how I think I could accomplish this, so:
First, buying this kit, and then, here comes the intersting part, taking the small transponder chip from our original keys, putting it somewhere safe in the new key that we get from the kit above, and to make it work with the immobiliser, we would need to put the key right next to the ignition antenna (or immobiliser receiver ring as it's also called) which is basically the plastic cover of the ignition cylinder where you insert your normal key to start the engine, and it looks like this: OR, find a way to replace this immobiliser antenna with a slight bigger one with a slightly better range and place it below wherever you would want to lay your new keys that you get from this kit (fitted with the transponder from the original car keys inside them), of course where it would not be visible. So therefore, with a better antenna placed wherever you want, the transponder would send info to it's reading unit, so you can start the car with the button, and you can also walk out of the car with the keys just like normal, and you would be able to lock the doors because, of course, you take your key with you and the reading unit of the transponder chip doesn't see the transponder near the antenna anymore. Any thoughts or help about this matter would be welcome, I would like to work together with someone for this project. Last edited by Rsnail; 11th July 2017 at 19:07.. |

I installed a second transponder ring stuck a chip onto it, that's on a relay that when the ignition is on turns it on, when ignition is off turns it off so you are able to lock the car, I got the start button kit of amazon, I have installed a button in the car that stops the relay from working so if I park up and don't feel like it is a safe place to park I will turn it on, if the button is pressed it says engine disabled. had this kit installed for about 6 months and all been good,

So you are basically saying that you step inside your car, normally press the START ENGINE button, the relay turns itself on, recognises the chip, and turns the engine on (all at a press of the START ENGINE button). And when you press it again to turn the engine off, the relay shuts itself off and you can lock the doors.

I wonder how an insurance company would react to you removing the steering lock though.
You know what these companies are like. Any excuse not to pay out on a claim for some pedestrian you'd just run over.--- PS. My E-Type Jag had a push button start.---40 years ago.--- |
