Default KV6 Cam Carrier Jointing Sealant.

Hi All,

Can someone point me in the direction of a supplier for the anaerobic sealant which Rover specify for the head to cam carrier joint on a KV6 please ?

MG Rover part no. seems to be GUG705963GM, but I'm not having any luck locating it. A Google search suggests various Loctite 'equivalents', but checking their spec sheets doesn't give any hard evidence of compatibility.

I'm not prepared to use silicone, as there's every possibility it'll squidge out into the narrow oil galleries and starve the camshafts. From what I've read, it appears the correct stuff hardens in the joint, whilst any excess is oil soluble and so gets washed away within the system.... clever !

Any help or experience of alternative products would be much appreciated

I would use Stag Wellseal for the job.

I've never had any issues using it on either type of K series camshaft ladders, apply with a small brush, then spread with a rubber roller to achieve a uniform coverage

Cheers for that Brian - I've been doing a bit more Googling tonight and it seems that LVV000108EVA is the specified cam carrier sealant for the 1.8 4-cylinder version. This MG Rover 'kit' appears to come with a brush and spreader, indicating that only the thinness application is required (as I would expect where oil galleries are being sealed and blockage could be a problem from the excess).

However, no where can I find any mention of this item being suitable for the 6 cylinder version ? Is there much difference between the seating/joint design of the two different engines - are they both a face fit with oil channels machined into the carrier ? I've never opened up a 4-cylinder K-series so not sure how the cam carrier is designed in those ?

I'll contact my local Land Rover agents tomorrow and see what they say, but failing that I might be ordering Wellseal...

Thanks again
