Default Driver's door lock problem

Hi all,
Would I be right in saying that the door lock actuator's are the same for all '75 / ZT models and are not subject to being re-programmed if replaced??
Friend of mine has a V6 which has dead locked the driver's door and he can only gain access via the passenger door.
I am going to suggest that he try's disconnecting the battery to see if this will help, but if anyone else has any other suggestions I would be very grateful for your help.
It could well be a faulty actuator but he has to start somewhere, I suppose.

Thanks

Brian

Locks are the same across the range, and don't require any programming

These things are unfortunately a fairly common failure item, and Made In Germany too ! Not too expensive, though.
