Default Double Glazing

We had a report that a window at the flat in Bristol has lost its vacuum.
Can it be repaired, or will we need a new window? Thank you

I am not in your area but I have heard of firms who suck the moisture out etc. Alternative you can get the sealed units replaced.

They can be resealed if you catch them quick enough, but if the condensation staining inside the glass have been baked on by the sun for any length of time they're virtually impossible to remove.

If you do need a replacement, make sure that you phone around and don't accept the first quote that you're given!

Going back 10 years or so, my son broke a neighbours double glazed window with a football (god knows how). He was quoted almost £400 for a replacement double glazed unit plus fitting.

I phoned about 6 firms, and found one that could supply the glazing only for £47! I fitted it myself. Replacing the double glazed units themselves is quite an easy task.

Hi Phil, hope you are well.

AS below, remove the glazing strips, measure the height and width of the glass panel insert-as well as the thickness, there are lots standard sizes.

Order a new panel, fit and replace the glazing strips and rubber.

A flat screwdriver, Stanley knife and rubber mallet are usual all that is required.

If it is an upstairs window, different story.

Price should be about £50 for a standard window.

Craig.

Thank you Craig, I am doing well thank you. We are currently out in the bush in Laikipia with poor internet, hence my late reply. Apologies.

The flat is 4th floor. The windows came with it when it was built 15 years ago. I think the best way ahead, is if the contractors can suck out the moisture and then reseal it, hopefully from the inside.

We have put together a reply, using everyone's suggestions and forwarded it onto the letting agent.

Thank you very much guys for helping
