Just for those watching, James and I have spoken on the phone and tried a number of things alas with no success. He's going to try a new glow plug relay to at least rule it out.
I've removed the link on my car to the relay and it still starts.

All very strange..........Rimmers says that NCL100030 has been superceeded by NCL100040.....

Edit: Sorry Zeb, Didn't check the notes.
The Part Number has changed on the Relay but still same price as stated. Also still available on the Part No. ending 30 see Cut & Paste in earlier post. |

Greeners rox!
For the sake of the thread update (& from others possibly learning about this too) David (Greeners) has been helping me enormously via phone & IM (also others too via this Forum I should add); this is really helpful and in great spirit. I appreciate it fellas!
David has just pointed me to a similar case EDIT: Search for "Rover 75 Cdt - Wont Start" from 2005 in 75/ZT forum over on .org and this appears eerily similar to my present experience. So on to the next move...I think for the sake of a few quid I've got to replace the Glow Relay part first to eliminate that one...but then I could be in the same situation as the other guy in that post and not know what to do next (it was non conclusive in the end which was worrying, or did he just get a fix and not pass on the good news...who knows...). I guess the step after that would be to get in touch with the Doc with regards the ECU; maybe he has some ideas from past experience. There MUST be an answer to this...a known route to getting it sorted previously by others. Surely it can't be scrappable yet - I shall persevere for the while though. Appreciate your help to date everyone, James Last edited by Simon; 7th June 2008 at 19:01.. Reason: Link removed |

Try a google on NCL100040 as that brings up some intresting posts on .org as well. keep going, you will get there in the end.

Black or White?
Today I've received the replacement unit from Rimmers (they call it RELAY-IGNITION HEATER PLUG) plugged it in and no joy...the starter turns but the engine still doesn't fire.
The first obvious thing was that the one which they supplied is black; mine was white. But the next thing is that the quantity and order of pins is entirely different, although it still marries up to the socket and connects. Does this sound normal to anyone else? See attached picture for what I mean. So I am a tad stuck as to what to do next. Do I need to send off the ECU to the doctor next or is there something else first perhaps? My Haynes manual also arrived in the post today so I shall be studying that for clues, but perhaps someone can come up with another idea to try. Hi james
It never was and never will be the glow pulg relay. This is just not the cause of any diesel car having consistent starting problems even if it was totally shot. To save you a shed load of cash, time and hassle, get the car to a recognised Bosch service agent for a flow test to check the pressure. Have you tried easy start through the EGR valve intake yet? Your ECU could be shot but to illiminate it we need to know if the car start and run on easystart. |
