Is this the glow plug required to start the car? 'cause that's the problem right now. So maybe the ECU is OK, but could this be the problem? I'll give it a go and re-solder and generally clean it up, but if that still doesn't work could the water have damaged other thingies as per my original post relating to this saga http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=21826 ? Or should I perhaps just replace this item first; where is the best place to obtain (my local breakers don't have any R75 in presently) - mail order from somewhere perhaps? I guess utopia here would be to have another car and swop items till something works; afterall it could be that there is something wrong with the ECU still afterall....
Your help is mucho appreciated here chaps. |

the ECU is pretty robust, and if there is no sign of water damage it should be fine. You really only need the glow plugs in cold weather, and it warm weather the relay doesn't operate. Clean off the crud, and have a look at the contacts on the relay to see if they are pitted. If they are gently clean them with a very fine file or 1200 grade wet and dry paper (use it dry). I would get it back together and see what happens. And it might be worth putting the battery on charge while your about it too.

Righto, I cleaned up the circuit board, blow dryed and resoldered some of the dodgy dry joints and put it all back together again, but no joy. I feel I'm shooting in the dark now with nothing definate to go on (hence my idea of utopia swopping components with known good ones!). So I am guessing it could still be the ECU, or it could be the Glow Plug Relay (but Greeners states it shouldn't be needed to start in the warm weather) or a combination of things, some not even mentioned yet! I mean, maybe fuel isn't being pumped or something; is there a way I can test for this? How many pumps should I be expecting to see other than the silver tubular one next to the ECU (I recall a post stating one in, one out or was that just on petrols) ? Or maybe again I'm just shooting in the dark....sending ECU to the Doc, ordering a replacement Glow relay, and it still might not be the answer...
Whilst I am prepared and able to do most things and follow logical routes, I am not very knowledgable on autos really! At some stage I guess I will need to get an expert on the case but I don't know anyone local here, especially now that I have no way of moving it other than a local tow to a duddage! Sense my panicking yet? I can't give up yet.... |

Don't give up (yet), there's plenty more you can try. I assume it's turning over but not starting. If you turn the key round with out starting, can you hear the fuel pump under the bonnet running ?

I'm very bored sitting at work, so this is a useful distraction. My other thought, is that the Glow Plug relay is faulty and the ecu is refusing to start. You could try pulling the white fourway plug off, although it may still not start as the ECU may expect to see an input from it. I'm looking through the manual to see if there's anything else you can try.
