Xtrons buttons don't light up

Hi all, I've just fitted my xtrons head unit to my zt using the bmw connector supplied and the buttons don't light up. I can make them light up via colour settings. There are one or two pins not fitted to supplied harness, and 3 spare wires, is one of these for button illumination?

You should have got a canbus unit to plug into the harness. This is what turns dial illumination on with your headlights if yours is the same as mine

That will be the problem, I left it on the other supplied harness, fitted it and all works, cheers.
