Default What Christmas traditions do you have?

As a child I remember my Mother used to tell us on December 5th to place a shoe in the Window, as St. Niklaus would come to visit and leave us treats in our Shoe if we had been good. Waking up on teh morning of the 6th we would check our shoe with great anticipation to find sweets in there

An old German tradition that she had as a child and passed on to us, though I have learned that it was done in quite a few other european countries.

So this year I decided to start the tradition rolling with my Son, who is four.

The funny part is when I told him to leave his shoe in the window and explained why, he looked at me and then studied his shoe carefully, he then disappeared into the cupboard and emerged with a Wellington boot and with a big grin on his face said "He can fit more treats in here" lol !!!

Each year we buy two new tree decorations, usually wooden and label them with the year and mark them with my son and daughters names. At some point in the (hopefully) distant future they will be given these for their own Christmas trees. We have also started buying these and naming/dating them for friends offspring.

Apart from the obvious of going out as a family to pick up a tree.

We put letters and treats out for the reindeer so they can take the letter to Santa for us. Fro the last 3 years we also help Santa out by buying some wrapping paper for him and putting it with the letters.
It must work as the treats, letter and wrapping paper are always gone.

We always visit Santa at the same location each year and it's great as he remembers our kids names for the previous year.

Boxing day breakfast of bubble and squeak. It's the only day of the year that the kids will eat it but they cannot get enough..

We also but a new snow globe each year. They are expensive ones but they look great and the collection is slowly growing..

Xmas Day lunch in a nearby Indian restaurant - the only one that I know that opens on Xmas Day.

I do not know why more do not open as this one is normally fairly full, from tables for two to large family groups.

Last year I had put a mince Pie, Glass of Sherry and a Carrot out for santa and Rudolph. I ate half the pie, drank half the sherry and cut chunks out the carrot to make it look like rudolph had nibbled at it. My Son was so impressed thinking Santa and Rudolph had done it lol.....Santa was annoyed at me for slugging his sherry

This year (to the horror of SWMBO) I have bought some Fake snow and made some shoe print templates. Going to leave a trail of footprints to the tree and up stairs to the Kids Stockings on the landing where we hang them, I don't care what people say lol, Christmas is about the kids and making it as "Magical" as I can is far more important than buying everything out the toy shop lol, your only a kid once (Unless your male and then we have a lifetime of childishness according to SWMBO lol)
