Spark plug blown out
Is there anyone here from the Manchester area who can tap and helicoil? My friend bought my 190 and he's had the drivers side rear bank plug blow out. I can get hold of a helicoil kit from a mate but I live in Malta now and can't do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Ta

There are plenty of helicoil kits on ebay for peanuts these days. If he DIY's it, a shortcut is to put plenty of grease on the cutting bit to catch the swarf or it ends up in the bore!!! I've heard it said that the soft aluminium would not harm it and be burned away??? but I wouldn't risk it.

Had the same on my old rover 400 , got a helicoil from my local garage for free, found a tap the right size , tapped with plenty of grease as stated above , fitted helicoil and no problems for a good six months after, sold the car with it in to a trader and he resold it , so perfectly safe to do and should be fine
