It would appear though confirmation as to the cause of the fire is not confirmed but a quote indicates it was a "Car" fire, The only time I have heard that when a car self ignites of late it just happens to be an EV Is this is what happened here?. If it is then there are going to be 1,200 cars involved in this fire,

It is because of these fires that Ferry companies are starting to refuse EV's on their ships.

I was thinking the same especially with the rate at which the fire has spread and accelerated.

I feel that there may be a lesson to learn here. There do seem to be more car fires resulting from EVs, and their additional weight may cause multi-storey car park failures in the future. Never have liked multi-storey car parks, and certainly shall not be using them in the future!

Diesel Land Rover & ties in with what the fire brigade said. .Andy Hopkinson, Bedfordshire's chief fire officer, said the service had "no intelligence than to suggest it was anything other than an accidental fire".
He said it was thought the fire started with a diesel car, and then spread through the car park.'

Why don’t these type of car parks have sprinkler systems or fire suppression installed they need to learn from this.

The dailyfail has around 500 comments saying it was an EV but the other side has now joined in since the news it was stated by a diesel car.

Since the news broke that it was a diesel car the dailyfail comments are now.

1. A cover up because it was an EV.
2. The Landriver picture is photoshopped
3. Diesel's are not able to catch fire because if you throw a lit match at diesel on the floor it wont catch on fire.
4. Its Hamas (yes there are a fair number assigning them the blame).
5. It was deliberately started to stop flights taking place to reduce their CO2 emissions.

The opposite side are now saying

ICE vehicles should be subject to the following.
  • Banning them from high-concentration areas like car parks or ships due to the fire risks (unless emptied of fuel), or at least segregating them from lower risk vehicles like EVs.
  • Adding explicit fire safety checks to the MOT test (unless these already exist?).
  • Mandatory fitting of automatic under-bonnet fire suppression systems.
  • Increasing insurance premiums on ICE vehicles to reflect the full cost of events like this.

There is. If you value your shiny new tech-laden EV, don't park it next to a petrol or diesel powered car!

It's the informed, balanced, opinions of the membership that make me keep posting.

I find it difficult to believe, unless there is video or witness testimony, that they know what the cause was.

They do not know what the actual cause of the fire was but that it emanated from a diesel car according to video/pictures
