Another oil leak spotted 1.8 turbo
I have just spotted a oil leak which has appeared on the bottom part of the engine behind the turbo and to the right hand side of the oil filter on my 1.8 turbo. Any ideas to what this could be please? I plan to have a good look tomorrow but just wondered what it could be.
Cheers OFTR

How low down is it? Could be external head gasket oil leak, sump gasket, turbo oil feed, rear crankshaft oil seal, clutch slave leaking, all sorts!
Try and find the highest place it is leaking from. It might be helpful to clean the area and try and trace it when it starts again. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

Anyway I think the the main leak is coming from the cambelt area, which I think is the cam seal???(Is this an expensive job??). And the other main one seems to be below the manifold to the right hand side of the the oil filter.

Pop the upper cambelt cover off and have a look. It's quite common for the camshaft oil seals to fail. Not a massive job but the cambelt has to come off so you might as well change it. Perfectly DIYable too if you are confident with the spanners

I would love a go at doing the seal myself, I'll take a look at the old Haynes manual, and see if I can pluck up the courage.
