Update on wiper issue, may need help of a t4 expert.

My wipers won't turn off, I've pulled both wiper relays and replaced them, they still stay on, the only way to stop them is by disconnecting the wire to the motor, I've removed the wiper stalk and they still won't stop. It's driving me mad, the car is due its mot.

Somebody please help

must be getting 12 from a short somewhere after the relay...
Check the loom from the fusebox to the wiper motor, also check the fusebox itself for issues...

Michael,

Have a look at the wiring loom in the vicinity of the NSF inner wheelarch, under the fusebox if that makes sense (just passing on what I've read on the forum). You might find broken wires there covered in mud and rainwater.

Just to clear it up, the wipers stay on if I remove the stalk, they turn off if I disconnect either relay, does this mean there is a short before the relay or after? Surely if it had shorted out the wipers wouldn't work at all not stay on? Same with a fuse this would stop them from working? Will check again tomrrow but is really driving me insane.

Michael,

It's not easy to draw conclusions like this. One relay deals with the 'run' and 'park' modes, and the other 'slow' and 'fast' speeds. Both have control connections to the BCU which provides an earth for the relay coils. The stalk control also connects with the BCU, so disconnecting these components doesn't really help.

My take on this, is that the wipers can be controlled by either the BCU or directly by the stalk switch.

Either source could be forcing the wiper relays on and the wipers to run.

He suggests he has unplugged the wiper stalk, so that only leaves the BCU generating the 'run' signal, or a fault on the wiring.

He might try unplugging the BCU, after disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting the battery to see what the result is.
