Default Rattle from the top end?

Hi everyone,

My first post and a problem already

Just bought a ZT 190+ SE with 32,000 miles on the clock and it's developed a rattle which seems to be coming from the inlet manifold now i have read that this could also be the VIS motors? The car seems quite flat performance wise when compared to my old M reg Audi A6 2.6 V6,so what i would like to know is there anyway to eliminate if it is either the manifold or VIS motors.

Thanks in advance,Paul.

Hi Paul, we are fortunate to have members like Stocktake and Bigruss who are wizzies with the vizzies so expect a reply from them soon. Another thing that can cause a worrying rattle is the fuel return valve which is situated near the manifold (opposite side to the vizzies).

And as if by magic............

Hi Rapid7 where abouts are you based? is the first hurdle.

Once we know where you are we may be able to locate a member with a VIS tester box of tricks. these boxes test the operation of the VIS motors either on or off your car.

Vis motors can be repaired, not always but more often than not. Once they have been tested we will go from there

welcome to the club by the way

Rapid7 If there's no-one in you area with a test box let me know, can arrange to meet next time I'm up in Cleveland.

Doesn't take 5 mins to check them, should be coming up there for a day or two in the next couple of weeks.

Wink

My 2.5 V6 ZTT had a similar rattle. Two new VIS motors £120 and 10 minutes to fit transformed the car performance wise and I have not heard the rattle since. The engine ticks over like a well-oiled sewing machine.

I doubt at 32k your manifold has gone mine was on 60k and still perfect.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Remember the 75.ZT does not have many weak points but VIS motors is unfortunately one of them.

Thanks capese21,

The garage have took the car back to sort out the rattle as the car came with 12 month warranty.I'm hopping it's just the VIS motors as when you rev the car the noise doesn't increase in speed.
