Driving license return.
Hi all,
Having sent off my license for the obligatory 10 year photo upgrade in September, i am still waiting for it to return. Must say though, the cheque sent with it was promptly cashed i would add!!!!! Anybody any idea of how long this is taking now??? I have tried to ring them, only to be greeted by a continuous engaged tone, no email contact that works, don't really where to go with it now. If anybody has had recent experience of this........... Thanks, and a merry xmas to all. Regards, Dave. |

Wife's was due July this year but a quick visit to the Gov.uk web page advised that they had all been extended until next year, not sure if this has any bearing on your situation.

Hi Dave,
Yes, just seen on my news feed that 352 employees are infected with covid at present, also stating that people working from home are overwhelmed with the amount of applications that are currently in the system. Oh well, just have to wait i suppose, by the time it does return, the next photo update will need doing!!!!! Regards, Dave. |

I'm totally bamboozled by the DVLA.
I got a reminder that my licence needed renewing by February. This reminded me that I had not changed my home address following our move in August. I weent onto the website and went through a long involved process to change the address and then followed up with the application process to renew my licence. A couple of days later a new licence with new address arrived, followed a week later by a letter with some forms to fill in. As the website said that the medical condition I have was fine to be done online, I was somewhat confused. So I rang them and couldn't get any sense, just an insistence that I had to complete the forms. So I did and sent them off. A week later the same letter and blank forms arrived in the post. I was bemused but worked out that they'd been sent to our new address, whilst the earlier forms had been redirected from our old address. These forms BTW asked for very little more info than I'd already filled in online a fortnight earlier. Anyway I've now received an acknowledgement of the forms and advice that they are making enquiries with my doctors, so at least things appear to be going in the right direction. |

It seems to be on of the benefits of having a passport, that they can use the same pic for driving licences.
I've not been out of the country since '96 so haven't bothered to renew the passport. Apparently my driving licence renewal doesn't require a new photo. |

My wife had to renew hers a couple of weeks ago. Got the new one back in less than a week.

I have a dilemma in that my licence expired in November but is still current under the 11 month extension, however, I have just sold my house and will be moving to Spain once it is all finalised so I would ideally like to have a full 10 year licence in my possesion as I don't think the Spanish police will be aware of the extension and I will possibly need an international driving permit after 31st Dec depending on what arrangements are made. Think I may apply now and see what happens. The licence is renewed every 10 years to reflect changes in your appearance, the picture on my licence is 9 months older than the picture on my passport which was taken 9 years and 2 months ago but is acceptable as a recent likeness of my appearance by the DVLA but my licence picture is not, seems more like a money making scam.
