Looking to buy one of these in next few months, i preffer the look of the Mk2 facelift, but chap at work said that the Mk2 is lesser quality with parks and paint due to BMW leaving production of the car? Is that true? thanks

The MK1 has two fuel pumps which can fail, the MK2 has one which doesn't so often.

The MK2 also sells for a bit less because it's ugly as sin :p

Rest should be the same.

Personally I prefer mk 1 75s but mark 2 ZTs, but that's just personal opinion.

I've never heard of quality dropping after the facelift, and having owned both I haven't seen any evidence of it either. These cars are notable for the amount of guff people spread about them, but that just means they're even better value for people in the know

There are subtle differences though. I know it's not widely held to be a standard difference, but going from a mk1 to a mk2 I found the suspension slightly softer on the mk2, and the steering a little firmer. Both were welcome changes to me, as the ride in my mk1 was a bit hard, and while I didn't think there was anything wrong with the steering in my mk1 I prefer the slightly heavier feel in the mk2.

Best thing as always is to try to have at least a quick go in both.

The chap at your work is mistaken BMW had nothing to do with the MG ZT it was brought out after they pulled out.

There was a system of cost cutting measures which started March 2001called "project drive" most of which had no detrimental effect to quality.

Only the very earliest of the ZT and ZT-T were unaffected by the programme.
IIRC by later that year most of the changes had come into effect.

I Love my Mk2 but i will say one thing the paint is about as thin butter on an anorexics sandwich. I just keep it clean and use plenty of wax hopefully this will protet the paint a bit more.

My boss has a Mk1 75 club and cant tell the difference in build quality at all to be honest.

It comes down to personal choice really, I personally prefer the MK1 75 and the MK2 ZT

Make sure you try a few, dont assume they are all the same even with the MK2, some fool may have asked for the sport suspension pack fitted which is much harder on the spine.

Also get used to looking at the detail of the cars, a lot out there, especially on a 03/04 plate could have face lift fronts and MK1 rears, mix and match seats etc.

I am sure most here will agree if we have one thing in common, its moddin the cars some with success some, not so.

Read the trim specs at the foot of Reebs Signature > https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=958

Last tip from me, really really consider whether you need the Tourer or the Saloon, I got the saloon and wish I had bought the Tourer so give that some thought too.

Hi,
As said BMW had nothing to do with the MG Z range at all.
The main difference between the MK1 & Mk2 apart from the bodywork changes, is you will find that the suspension is a bit firmer on the MK1ZT. It was softend slightly on the MK2ZT as some people found the MK1 a bit on the hard side.
Down really to what kind of handling you prefer.
As with a previous reply I prefer the look of MK1 Rover75, but think that the MK2 MGZT looks very good indeed. Think they lost the plot a little with the 75, as they failed to realise what the 75 was all about.
Wish you luck in your search.
Regards,
Telfer.
