75 cdt starting problem
I have a facelift 2004 CDT. Until recently it has started first time, every time. A couple of weeks age it wouldn't start immediately, but after a couple of minutes of trying it kicked in. This week the same thing, but it wouldn't start at all. The AA came and squirted some easy start into the inlet, and it started. He said the pump needed changing.
However, having read various threads on here it suggests that if I can hear the pump by listening at the back seat, then the pump is working ok. I can hear it. I've found out, through trial and error, that if I turn the ignition to position 2 and wait for two minutes, then the car starts first time. Could the filter be restricted? Any suggestions please. Thanks, Simon |

Could be the O ring on the high pressure regulator, I've come across this before. If it starts on easy start it most likely won't be injectors or the pump itself. The car needs to be on live diagnostics whilst cranking. I bet that the high pressure will read too low for it to start and that it will be something do to with the regulator causing the issue

Hi Simon.
Try removing the low pressure connector to the fuel filter, see if that helps in anyway, also when was the fuel filter last changed? I presume you have an under bonnet pump, if so remove the fuel inlet from the filter put the end into a bottle or jug & get someone to turn the ignition to II do you have a good flow from the fuel line without any splutters. 1 2 3 If the above turn out ok then check the O-rings on the regulator sometimes these start to leak the fix is cheap link below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-530d-...QAAOSwqu9U3zfY

If none of the above cure it then worth carrying out an injector leakback test.
The HP fuel pump runs at 3/4 engine speed, so any excessive leaking at the injectors when cranking may not be made up by the pump, and if there isn't sufficient pressure the ECM won't fire the injectors. Giving the engine a squirt of Easystart can often raise the revs enough for the pump to cope with the losses. |

I had the same problem, would not start from cold or hot, A sniff of easy start and it would start straight away and continue to run all day unless you turned it off. It turned out to be the "O" ring on the regulator on the HP pump.

Thanks for the advice. I won't be able to check things out until the weekend, so I'll let everyone know how it goes then.
