Default Wingmirror replacement

Hey,
I've recieved my new mirror to replace my broken one but after removing the old one the bolt thing that holds the metal bracket to the car is stuck! Instead of removing the nut it has unscrewed from the base plateleavibg the nut and bolt attached to the car. Is it possible to remove the screw from new mirror without damaging it to reuse the old one or will I need to get a garage to cut it in half? I have very limited tools.
Cheers
Phill

Ive replaced my mirror with a new replacement powerfold from best of British spares the only thing is that the glass seems to make everything seem much bigger/closer for some reason which makes overtaking on dual carriageways a bit more tricky to judge distance, and to get a good view I have to use the adjusters to move the mirror position all the way to the right. Was the type of glass used changed at some point? Or could it be because the one before used a convex mirror where as this one is normal flat glass?
Cheers
